Physiotherapist Explains: Why You Look 10 Years Older in Photos — and How to Fix It
"...when did I start looking like this?"
Dr. Brian Villar
Doctor of Physical Therapy with specialization in the musculoskeletal system

The worst part of a video call isn't the call.

It's the little window in the corner.

Because there you are, all day, watching yourself slowly fold.

Neck creeping forward. Shoulders rounding in.

And at some point you catch it — that hunched, deflated silhouette in the corner of your own screen — and you sit up fast, hoping nobody noticed.

Twenty minutes later you're doing it again.

In 17 years of treating necks and backs, I've learned one uncomfortable truth...

Almost everything sold to fix your
posture treats the symptom and ignores the cause.

Here's what makes posture so sneaky: You can't feel it happening.

There's no alarm the moment your head drifts forward and your spine curls.

By the time you notice (a stiff neck, a bad photo, a strap you've torn off), you've already been collapsed for an hour.

That's not weak willpower. It's missing feedback.

You can't correct a slouch you don't know you're in.

Braces don't fix this — they make it
worse.

They do the work your muscles should, so your muscles switch off and weaken.

Stretches help only in the 20 minutes you do them.

The cause sits there untouched: your body has lost awareness of its own position.

You don't need more force holding you up, but a signal the moment you start to slouch.

When you're deep in work - coding, writing, gaming—your brain's "body awareness center" goes nearly silent.

Neuroscientists have proven that during flow state, you literally can't feel your posture degrading. This is why conscious reminders fail after 90 seconds.

You need something that catches you automatically, even when your mind is elsewhere.

This one change rewires the whole problem...

That's why I worked with the team
behind ShiftGen — a small device you clip on your neck discreetly.

It tracks the angle of your spine, and the moment you slouch past your set point, it gives a soft, private vibration. Not a shock. Just: you've drifted, come back.

No straps. Nothing digging in. Nobody can even see it.

It works silently whether you are in deep focus, scroll, or relax.

BIOFEEDBACK IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

ShiftGen Retrains Your Brain in 14 Days

Unlike braces that make you weaker, ShiftGen uses gentle haptic vibrations to trigger your muscles to engage.

Every time it buzzes, you're reinforcing the correct neural pathway—teaching your brain to remember where neutral is.

After 14 days of this biofeedback loop, perfect posture becomes automatic.

Data-driven, proven, permanent.

Been using it for over a month now to help me get rid of wfh posture, the experience has been great! Pro Tip: Don't start with the "perfect posture" setting. Start with a position that feels tough but that doesn't torture you the whole time, and progress day by day.

This thing finally ended my whole suffering... I really thought my back/neck were unsavable. I started implementing small upgrades to the angle and wear time day by day and feel greater than ever 😇

I got around 50 alerts on average the first few days 🤐 Exhausting at first, but it really works and you get used to it.
